The backspace measurement is the distance from the the inside [back] lip of the rim to mounting surface where it contacts the brack drum/disk. The less backspace "BS" you have on a given wheel then the more rim lip you have on the outside of the wheel. 20x10 wheel with 3" BS has 7" inches of lip...
