lower control arm ?

how much do you thread in the lower arm mount? set it in the middle, towards the front, the rear. does this effect alignment. the arms i am speaking of are the 72 and older style with thread in end caps. with the caps threaded in there is still room for adjustment on the center shaft. where da ya put it. any help would be appreciated. i made a set of the lowers like jlaird did on his for the bags. turned out nice, real nice.
