The Restoration has Begun

Well, here goes nothing. After waiting for about 6 months for the body shop to have time to work on my truck, it has begun.

At first we thought cab corners and cab mounts were the only repairs needed but as always as we dug into things we found more and more rust. A bit of the right rocker, the floor where it meets the kick-panel on both sides, and inside the cab behind the cab corners were rotted out. So...the tab keeps going higher, and higher, and higher. I have a patient wife.

The good news is that the guy doing the metal work is a 20 year-old genius. I couldn't believe some of the patch panels he bent/welded into place. He made them from scratch and they looked factory stamped. I also supplied some patches (cab corners, rockers, cab mounts) but he made all the odd stuff. After he's welded-in a panel it will hardly take any putty at all to get it perfect.

I hope to have a ready-to-paint truck after they're done. So, now the saving starts for the paint job. I sure hope they don't find any more rust.

1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix...
2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo
1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best.

Past:
'05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner.
'94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm.
'79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350.
'76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod.
'68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect.
'59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.
