Clutch installation

I hate to sound helpless here, but since I took my clutch apart 10 yrs ago I can't remember how it's supposed to look back together. The manuals that I have just say to 'tighten' the pressure plate bolts. How tight should they be & how much clearance is there supposed to be between the pressure plate and flywheel.

Looking at my old pressure plate and bolts, there were not any washers installed. If I install washers now it will give less clearance between the pressure plate and flywheel. How will this affect the clutch?

I'm just worried that something isn't right.

Thanks for your help.
