Steering Column

I replaced the steering column in my '71, but have come to a stumbling point. When I got everything back together, the pointer on the bowl doesn't align with the indicator...as in when in park, the indicator shows reverse. The bowl and cover can only go one way when together as there are notches. Any idea what I did wrong?

Whether related or not, when I pull the shift lever back hard, the entire bowl assembly seems to slide on the shaft. Since there is nothing there for it to bolt of screw to, I'm assuming it stays that way??

Ideas, opinions?
