OK, I need help from rear axle gurus...

I am rear axle challenged and my 68 GMC 250 standard with a Dana has been making a clunking sound when I turn. It's mostly on the first turn after sitting for a day or two.

About 6 months ago I replaced the pinion oil seal, removed rear cover and cleaned and replaced the gear oil and cover gasket.

Here's what I have checked for: Loose bed bolts, axle spring bolts, shackles, lug nuts, shocks, etc. all look good.

What I noticed: I lifted the rear tire and pushed and pulled on it and found it had a slight in and out movement. Maybe 1/8th inch movement or slightly more. Could this be it? What's the fix?
