Newbie Question

Hello to all, I am taking the plunge and looking at a GMC pickup truck to purchase. I am unsure of the year as is the elderly owner who has it for sale. The serial number that I got off the door post is....101 22 P 18007........ The truck appears to be pretty complete even still has the key in the ignition. It is not running at the moment, just parted out in a shed behind his house. The rear bed is metal and not wood boards so I don't know if the wood was removed and replaced with metal, or if the metal can be replaced by wood.

Hes asking $2,000.00 for it. I don't know if thats a fair price or if I should start lower, I don't want to stiff him but on the other hand I don't want to over pay for it.

I know probably asking alot and hopefully someone can answer these questions,
