SM465 NP205 COUPLER help

I have a definate clunk when I shift, I can control the clunk if I'm easy on the clutch when I shift but if I bang a gear it will clunk.

I hear this might be due to the coupler between the tranny and the tcase. I also know there are at least 2 types of couplers. The one I have measures 7" from case to case. Anyone else have this issue? Will replacing the coupler fix the clunk or do I just need to live with it?

Thanks for the help.
