WIW? - '78 Crew Cab: Pics Inside
So my friend bought a '78 crew cab & has now decided that because it needs a little work, he doesn't want to be bothered with it anymore. So he sold the 454/TH400 out of it. It has 78k on the clock and he bought it from the original owner - who gave him all the paperwork on the truck, including the original sales reciept. Interior is in decent shape, the seats are clean with no rips, the dash has several cracks in it though.
it is in fairly decent shape, but does need some work. The area of most concern to me is the upper door jamb on the drivers side rear. It has started to rot (not sure if water is getting into the roof cavity, or if there were leaves/dirt stuck up there). There is a little bit of rot on the driver's side inner rocker/cab support that the Original Owner "fixed" with expandable foam. There is also some rot on the lower rear bedsides right behind the tire, but the wheel arches are perfect & the bed floor is perfect - so that is a HUGE plus in the body work department. I HATE rotted wheel arches, seems you can never get them to look "factory" again. I kinda like the early crew cabs, and it is a nice truck, drives and rides super nice & quite. I would just put a small block back in it & I have another TH400 in stock. I don't need any more projects, but I hate to see it get parted out and the rest get crushed. I think I can get it for less than $500 WITHOUT the wheels & tires. Is it worth it or? I know that I would like to have the 14bolt FF rear axle with 3.73gears to go with a D60 Front that I have - eventually want to have them in a '67-'72 Pickup. I guess I just hate to see a decent truck go.
