Square Bore Carb. and spread bore intake manifold

Hello all... Newbie here, I have a spread bore intake manifold on my 83 C10 pickup, I was going to rebuild the Qjet carb, but decided to purchase a new Edelbrock performer series carb. 1406... My question is I bought the Mr. Gasket (#1932) Open adapter to put my carb on the spread bore intake. After getting home and reading the Edelbrock instruction they say not to use the open adapter and only use the Edlebrock Quadrajet adapter kit. The open adaptor costs $15... The Edelbrock runs $45, does it matter or is Edelbrock trying to get me to spend an extra 30 bucks?
