new guy
So I will take this time to tell you the same story you have heard, a least a few times. Stumbled across the site trying to find out how to hook up an early 700r4 in a 68 short wide. The 68 started out as a long wheel base, then a complete stranger stopped me and gave me a 71 shorty with disc brakes. The upper side was traaaash but a decent frame. After stripping all the sheet metal I wire brushed the frame and painted all reusable parts. Next replaced all bake parts and worn rubber mounts. The 68 had cancer free sheet metal, but had driver side fender damage. A trip to the local bone yard solved that problem, but still without a suitable bed. 71 donor did have a step side, but as I said before, cancer ridden. That's where I stand with the build, but future plans include replacing the tired 350 with a fresh 350. I really would like to drop it with spindles and springs, not really into bags. Trying to keep as much GM as possible. They spent a little bit of money getting it right, and who am I to second guess it. The biggest deal with the project is I have a wonderful two year old daughter, yes daughter, who is completely into the build. Each step I have taken, she has been there helping - as much as she can. And much to my suprise, since the 68 will be hers, momma dosen't mind spending money on it. You can see the Christmas list already. Other projects include a 1947 Dodge D24 two door sedan and a 1947 Dodge 1/2 ton truck. Not much work has been done on the car, but the truck is setting on a s-10 frame. Got very busy two years ago and all projects were put on hold.
So that is a quick over view and I am trying to figure out how to post pix. I am tring to resize and post and learn as I go. |
