Rear bags on '66 C10 - questions

I would like to install Dominator 2600 bags on the rear of my '66 c10 & have a question. I've seen a few people bolt their bags directly to the trailing arm and frame. I've also seen these brackets being sold for 60-72 trucks.

Are the brackets above necessary? Does anyone have a pic of these brackets installed? I'm guessing the advantage would be that you only need one hole in the frame rail to mount the upper plate rather than drilling a big hole in the frame for the air fitting to pass through.
