new bellhousing vs. older bellhousing

are the later model aluminum bell housings interchangeable with the heavy cast iron bell housings of the our year trucks? I want to go with the aluminum ones because 1: they are lighter weight 2: all four tranny bolts are on the outside, making transmission swapping way easier.

i have 66 c-10 with the factory automatic that im converting to a three speed overdrive. bell housing to end of tranny is almost exactly the same length as the powerglide i have in here so i wanna use the automatic cross member for that and not have to deal with my e brake system
