Flaming River Column Help

I bought a tilt column a long while back for my '69 C-10. At the time there was just one part listed. Come to find out there are two versions, one that has the nuetral safety switch 10" from the end and one that has it 17" from the end. Mine is 17" but the switch interferes with the metal support behind the dash. It is too late for me to return the column. Does anyone know if there is another metal support that I can swap to from a different year? I currently have the tranny mounted NS/back up switch, but it looks fragile (the truck is not done so I dont know if would be OK or not) Any comments or suggestions would be great.
