Question TH350 Kickdown Cable Info

Does anyone have any links w/ good pics for connecting a kickdown cable to a TH350. I don't have one currently. We recently acquired the truck and have been focusing on the motor until now. I have read that you don't necessarily need one to make shifts possible. Shifting has mostly to do with the vac. modulator correct? The way I understand is that the kickdown cable only controls the shift one gear and only at WOT. We definitely would like to punch out while going about 20-35 or on the highway. I assume the cable is the only way that is going to happen. Also, shift from 1-2 is clean and good but 2-3 is a little hesitant unless RPM's are a little higher. Do I have to change the springs in the governor to adjust the shift point or can I adjust the modulator (if it's in fact adjustable) to accomodate and earlier shift point?

Any info on parts needed, applications, and diagrams for easy installation would be very helpful.
