'86 emissions rats nest - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have been browsing through some of the engine pics on here of the '86 and newer trucks, and I must be missing something.
I am not seeing the rats nest of vaccum hoses like I have on mine. How much of this junk can I do away with? I do not have emission testing where I live, but will they visually check for this?
Most of the hoses seem to originate at the vapor canister, how will removing this effect my engine performance? I know this is probably a complicated issue, but I would really like to clean up my engine bay.
