Advice on tire size

Hi all, I just got some 17 x 8 inch wheels with 4.5 inch backspacing (Cragar chrome steel 441 with 6 lug). I have a 4 inch front and a 6 inch back drop and I was wondering about tire size. I am looking for something that will not break the bank (around $100 each). I was considering 235 55R/17. They are 27.2 diameter and a section width of 9.6. I noticed that some are running 255 50R/17 that are the same diameter and are only about a 1/2 inch wider. Is there anyone running 235 55R/17's and will they look ok (I know this is opinion and I would like to hear) with the amount of drop I have? Thanks in advance for any help.
