Help me pick out a set of heads for 383 Stroker
My 350 block and heads are at the machine shop. Block is getting a 383 stroker kit installed. Heads looked good, but figured I'd get a valve job while they were off. Never hurts.
Machinist just called back and said one of the heads was cracked. These were 76cc heads, which would have kept the compression ratio lower for pump gas. So, I've never bought after market heads. I've heard of the brands...brodix, patriot, etc. I'm not an engine guy. This is the first motor I've ever had built. Here are some things I can share, though not sure if all are needed: 1) Block is 4bolt main from an 86 Truck 2) 383 Stroker kit being installed 3) Cam is Comp Cams XE268 Kit here 4) Using COMP Cams Ultra Gold Aluminum Rocker Arms here 5) Using Edelbrock Performer Air-Gap Intake Manifold 6) Using Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM Carb Uses: Daily driver, at best. I work at home, so it will probably be driven a few times per week. I don't plan on, nor have a desire, to go to the drag races. I want the torque, and I want a little "fun power" to get me in or out of trouble quick. I don't street race. I'm too old and value my insurance rates, plus people get killed. My ultimate goal is reliability, smooth to fairly smooth idle. I do want to keep compression low for pump gas. So what do I need, guys? I appreciate your advice and experiences.
