Timings off

a truck i'm looking at, 71 c10.. has either the 250 or 292 1bbl and has a new "updated" dizzy in it..

Quote:
the truck is solid all but the rocker panels and a few spots on the doors. i have replaced the waterpump, radiator, put new tires on it. i drove it to take trash off and the points system gave me problems and had someone put in a updated disribtor in it and the timing was off so i haven't messed with it the card was new but from setting most likely needs overhauling.
are there any secrets to timing this engine?

also can you tell just from this pic if its a 292 or 250?
