Need Steering Column Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well, I've tried finding the answer to my questions on the board, but since I don't know what these parts are called, I'm having a difficult time.

Number 1, can someone tell me the correct terminology for the parts circled in the attached picture?

Number 2, can someone tell me how much play these SHOULD or SHOULD NOT have? Right now, I can slide it in and out a bit both within the boot (yellow arrow) and where the u joint grasps the splines (blue arrow). I hope this makes sense. Once I know the correct names of the parts, I can probably describe the problem better.
