1962 C-10 Truck interior

I am resotoring a 1962 chev truck and I have taken out the interior and intend to move the gas tank to the frame area behind the differential.

Has anyone removed the old gas tank foundation. I looks like it can be cut with a grinder leaving only the bottom and back plate. It would be better if the entire thing is removed but I can not see how to cut it loose without damaging the cab body.

I have removed all the gages and wiring behind the dashboard. Can the dashboard be removed from the truck to make the work easier. I am removing the front windshield. I can see the bolts on each side but do not see any up next to the windshield.

The truck is a fleetside long bed. Can I just bolt on a new short step side bed. I plan on buying a new bed.

Any comments would be helpful and this is my first restoration on a truck.
