Motor Rebuild Question

I got a question for your motor junkies...
I just got a free motor from a '87 silverado. It's the TBI motor. It ran ok but has a small piece of the piston chipped off... Could i get away with just having the block honed and put 8 new pistons and rings in it and leave everything else the same? or would i need to do other stuff as well? He also kept the tbi head and intake but i still have the heads/intake/carb from the 85 motor i just pulled... could i use these on it and just add my mechanical fuel pump? I am wanting to get this motor running for my 73. I'm doing the 5.3 swap on my 85 and driving the 73 untill i get that one done. The 73 runs pretty good its only got 92k original miles but she is leaking from rear main and i wanna swap the motor out but keep the motor thats in it now as an extra and fix it up later...... im probably getting confusing now so ill stop, any help would be great!
