Truck quit, possible water in gas

So on the weekend I noticed my gas cap was missing. I think I knocked it loose while working on the truck. I have since purchased a new gas cap.

This afternoon I decided to drive my 69 GMC back to work and after about 1 mile it sputtered, then sputtered again, backfired and as I turned a corner it quit. It would not restart.

First thought was maybe I have the wrong gas cap and I popped open the gas cap to see if the tank had a vacuum, but it didn't and the clear fuel filter near the carb has liquid in it.

Maybe some rain got in the tank this weekend when I did not have a gas cap. Any easy way to pump the water out of the lines?

Any other suggestions?

I will be walking back to get my truck after work and it would be nice to drive it home.

The truck has a 1979 Chevrolet 305 V8, with HEI and a quadrajet carb.
