Stall converter and Gear Q's

I have a 355/350 combo, it is not a daily driver. There is a new drag strip here in Abilene and I was wondering if a 3800 stall converter would be too much, it would only be for racing. My motor has just around 345 hp.

And also what would be the best and cheapest rear gear to switch to?? I want 3.73's but don't have the 800 dollars to get it going. What are my options. Can i go to the junkyard and find a rear end that will just bolt in to my 12 bolts current location. Like what kind of automobile has 3.73 posi's stock??? And what numbers on the rear end should i look for??

Thanks
Jason
