clutch stop and tach wiring

I'm putting a factory tach that I've had laying around for years in my recently acquired 71 3/4 4x4 gmc. I was wondering if anyone could display a schematic, I know it's probably simple. I also would like to see if anyone knows if the clutch linkage assembly under the dash when it returns to the stop or non applied position is supposed to rest on some type of rubber stopper. My clutch works fine but the pedal sits out way too far from the floor.
Thanks for any help.
