Eaton Rear axle Spindles

I am pulling parts off of an old Eaton rear axle that I aquired for the 4:10 3rd member a few years ago so it is time to clean house. I decided to save the axle shafts and drums and got the drum off of one side............it was brutle!!! Shoes rusted to drum making it near impossible to remove, some clever prybar work, penetrating oil etc. and I got the one side off to save the hub and drum assembly.
I rattled the 4 bolts off that hold the backing plate and I thought spindle on.
Does the spindle come off of the axle housing?? Is it machined in place?? Some moderate persuasion didn't move anything so I thought it best to inquire....................anyone know for sure???
