gen lll in k series?

Ok, I am getting ready for a resto on my 70 k20. It has a sm465 and np205 combo, but I don't have a motor yet. Recently I have been thinking about a 6.0 litre conversion. I want an overdrive trans and rebuilding a 1st gen (383 stroker) will cost more than a used 5.3 or 6.0 genlll. I need to do some homework on this, but have no idea where to start. LS1tech maybe?
My question is, has anyone done this swap with a k series? I am sure someone here has but came up short with a search.
I am interested in what was done about the transfer case and transmission. I think it may be harder to find a newer 5 speed tranny (t56?) than an automatic. i would like to stay with a standard trans.
What will I need for this swap? I have no idea what the newer transfer case is called even!
Any links or info would be appreciated.
