next problem,spindle shim?

When I tore down the truck, there was a shim behind the RF spindle. Stupidly, I thought nothing about it at that point and took it out. Later as I cleaned the parts I found that this thing is a wedge. It is tapered. Now I have no idea which way the thick side went.
At this point my plan is to use a machinist level and level the frame side to side. Then check the axle tubes and then the spindles. I am hoping that this will tell me if the spindle is kicked up or down and where the shim goes.

Anyone have any experience with this shim or ever seen one?
