Ammeter and Alternator Upgrade Questions

My truck's alternator has been previously upgraded to an internally regulated unit. I have a few questions pertaining to the stock ammeter gauge;

Where should the needle on the ammeter gauge normally point with the original alternator?

Where should the needle on the ammeter gauge normally point with an upgraded alternator? Is it bad for it to be close to the "C" side?

What is the scale of the gauge?? More specifically, there is "D", for discharge, and "C" for charge, how many amps + or - on either end of the gauge (50-60 amps???), and is the center 0 amps?

In hooking up the gauge, I ran into some confusion as to where the wires for this gauge go, my original harness has been hacked up, some wires are missing, among them being the plug and wires that went to the old ext. voltage regulator. So, I know that there are two wires coming from the gauge, one is a fused black wire, and the other is a fused black/white wire. They are under the hood waiting to be routed to where they need to go. Where do these two wires need to be hooked up as to get an accurate reading on my ammeter gauge?

Thanks,

Justin
