anyone ever try to convert 4wd blazer to 2wd?

found a guy who has a 85 4x4 blazer with a near perfect body and top, has no motor or trans, wants to let it go for $500, my blazer body and top being a 7 his being a 10+ it's almost worth it just to save in body work when i'm ready for paint. my question is this ..... does anyone know of a comon point on the 4x4 and 2x4 blazer or c10 frames to messure where to drill the holes for the front x-member. I have NO 81-87 trucks or burbs in my local junk yards to sample from ( my blazer is a 83 4x4). any links or pictures would be very helpfull

thanks
