700R4 Thoughts and direction please

Okay, so some of you may have read my thread before where I was looking for help on my Holley 670 Street avenger on my ZZ4 Crate motor thats mated to a 700R4. I gave up and took it into Livernois Speed shop in dearborn. Detroit area for those of you living in the different parts of the US. The 670 was so bad that I could barely get the truck down the road without it stumbling and dieing out. I had an edelbrock 600 on it that was just insanely snappy off idle, very fun and ran great, but kind of died off around 3800. It was like it ran out of breath. So I took it to livernois had them tune in my 670 and told them I needed to get the 700 R4 dialed in. They said NO PROB we have done many 700 setups. Keep in mind the edelbrock setup did not have the proper arm for the TV cable but did have the new bracket and correct afermarktet TV cable. Well the detent with the edelbrock was set close but not close enough as it would pretty much just hang in 1st gear untill about 23-2600 RPM and then Chirp into 2nd. Now with the new setup it shifts alot better and more on time, but a hard acceleration from 1st to 2nd it slips and is sloppy. Just not firm at all.
The INSTALL.
They installed the Holley on a 1" spacer as they said the holley was not really setup for that stock ZZ4 manifold hence my issues not getting it running properly. SO the detent cable comes off the bracket and has about a 35 Deg rise upto the arm on the carb. Just does not seem like that would get the proper angle to me????? And this is after the morons tell me I need the Holley arm for the 700R setup. WTF is the point of the arm if your not going to move the cable higher to be paralell with the thing in the first place?
The carb setup. The 670 runs pretty good for a first gear jab to about 1/3 throttle but if you go past that it stumbles and back fires and falls on its face untill you come out of it. Is it too lean or do you guys think it might need more timing? I am going back to Livernois on monday to talk to the tech that did the install, but just wanted some insight and direction. After spending almost 600 dollars on this tune up that they performed, I am just a little irritated that it does not run better. I apologize if this thread is a little scatter brained, but I was laying in bed for about 45 Min and just needed to get it off my chest and see if anyone could point me in the right direction.
