Steering Damper

Hi,
Has anyone had trouble with the length of a stock steering damper? It's on a 77 4x4 burb. It's a GM part. I rebuilt the whole front end and replaced the damper and tossed the old one-it was all dented up. Went to roll the thing into the spray booth for paint and was unable to turn the wheels full to the left. Turning to the right was okay. It's like the damper stroke isn't long enough. I thought they wee all the same length from 73-91. Thanks, Tom
