Tilt column question

I installed a tilt column in my Jimmy today. Everything went pretty well considering I was doing it myself. As I was finishing up I installed the steering wheel. There is a 3/16 inch gap between the back of the wheel and the column, is this normal? Everything works, horn, directional and hazards, shift indicator light, and the indicator is correctly lined up with the correct gear. The only issue is that space?

Thanks
Mark
