Some help please....heat defrost cables..

Searched and couldn't find anything on this, my heater/ defrost cables are very difficult to move, and will actually move back after sliding the lever either way. Any advise on how to lubricate the cables, and best way to introduce the lubricant to the cables? Thanks......
