I like the look of the second rendition of the spped lines. It really does bring the old school look. I think with some tinkering it can be made to look just right.
I do also like the work the 19gmc63 did. I've always liked the way ghosted in accents look. Maybe try the speed lines in the same fashion? If they don't pop out quite as much it may help them blend in to the body lines instead of trying to exagerate them or compete with them for your eyes attention.
