Fuel sending unit woes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just installed a new sending unit for the 1972 K20. Old unit would often get stuck and wasn't very accurate. The new unit came with a return that I didn't have, but a trip to the auto parts store solved that issue.

After installing the new unit I filled the truck up with fuel and the gauge reads about 3/4 full.

Where should I start? Should I try to test the sending unit? The thought of removing the sending unit isn't very appealing right now
