Another Old School Trick, Keeping Paint on Painted Bolt/Nut Heads
was talking to one of my workmates yesterday who was into 50-60's car show scene. here's yet another trick he pulled out on me......
don't you hate like heck when you have to remove capscrews/hex nuts that have been painted? the paint usually gets chipped and marred, and if it's in a noticeable place, you have to hit it with a toothpick worth of paint. it's not the same, is it? next time you have to remove said capscrew/hex nut, coat it with grease. it seems as though the grease let's the socket or wrench to slip just enough to cushion the impact. I haven't tried this trick with an impact wrench, but for hand tools it works great. now enjoy your nuts......
