Will a '88 and up body fit a around '79 chassis?

Will a '88 and up body fit a chassis from a for example '79?
What are the differences between the chassis?

The reason I ask is following:
Overhere cars before 1984 don't need to pay taxes as they are 'oldtimers'.
I can buy a chassis only + all legal documents from a older style pickup.
If possible I'd like to put everything from a for example '95 onto that chassis.
Body, engine, transmission, wheels etc etc (everything).

That way I will have a newer style pickup on a oldtimer chassis and don't have to pay taxes.
