rear end identification

I have a 1971, originally with 6 cylinder with three on tree, what should the rear end be from factory? As
I have jacked it up and turned wheel about 1 turn and driveshaft turned about 2 revolutions, which doesn't make sense? So I wire brushed the whole rear end down and got these numbers off the front GM55, 3896839N, and the back L61 or 81, then con2. Other than opening up rear end and counting gear notches do these numbers mean anything?
