School me on drivetrain

Ok guys, Im new to chevrolet and I have a few questions. So I have a '68 c10 pickup that has a 292 and a 3 speed converted to floor shift. I was wondering if I could mate a smallblock with that transmission without problems. Also, would the flywheel from my 292 work on a smallblock? How about engine mounts and that stuff. Im also wondering which 4 speed I should look for. A buddy of mine has a '64 chevy schoolbus with a 4 speed and 2 speed rearend. He told me to look for the big burly 4 speed out of something like that. I want something that can take some abuse, and get decent mileage. I might have access to a 267cui smallblock and I might try to put that in(for the fact of just having a V8 and the cool sound, I know it wont be a hotrod). Im trying to do this as cheap as I can. Thanks guys.

Chris
