gutless 01 tahoe

Hey guys, I'm a regular over on the 67-72 forum, but this is the first time i've posted on here. I have been in the market for a 00+ yukon or tahoe for the last few weeks and I test drove one today and had some questions. I went to look at a 2001 tahoe, they are asking $5300 because of a salvage title (doesn't scare me I've had a few salvage cars before). It is a 2wd, all power, leather, has 22" rims with good tires, new metallic green paint, interior in good shape with one small torn seam in driver seat, has 3rd row but one is missing, with 143000 miles. Anyways I took it for a drive, it started and idles smooth, 1st stop sign it had good power, then the next one I noticed I had to give more gas, then after that it didn't matter how hard I pushed the pedal it had no power. The check engine light was on, they said they had it checked and it is a bad sensor (that's alot of help!). I didn't have my code reader with me, so I couldn't check it out. So it runs smooth, just no power, doesn't cough or surge or anything. It also had a brake pedal pulsation. I told them with the problems the most I could pay would be $4000, they said the lowest they would go is $4500 (kbb value for good condition, no salvage is $6400). It is 90 miles away, but is only 20 minutes away from my school (UC davis), I'll be down there on thursday and they said if I want I could run the codes to see what I think it is. So before I go back I wanted to see what you guys think it could be since I'm not too familiar with these engines. One thing that came to mind for me is do these have the fly by wire throttle setup? if so could it not be opening up the throttle body? Here is a picture of it

So what do you guys think?
