Help! 1966 TH-400 With Old-Style Filter
I posted this is the suspension forum but thought I'd give it a shot here since these transmissions are probably more common in pre-67 trucks. If a mod feels it necessary, they can delete this and move the other to this forum.
Here goes... I read when trying to find info on the old (pre-68?) style TH400 filter that it's washable. I don't see how that's true, but it would save me from having to search for a converter tube to turn this guy into a new-style filter transmission. Those old style filters are ridiculously expensive. Not sure why the truck has that transmission in it, but it seems to be in decent shape. Will I need a different pan to accommodate the new filter? I have a '67 TH400 in my other car and when I converted, the filter seems to be jammed into the trans pan. Maybe it is supposed to be that way. While im asking, does anyone know where I can get a GOOD reusable pan gasket? I have one that is vulcanized rubber with a metal core on my other car but can't find one for the TH400. TIA! Here's a link to that crazy filter The trans has the big black can style modulator, will the newer, smaller modulators work on this guy? One more thing, anyone know where I can get that tube I mentioned to convert to new-style flat filter? Preferably locally? I found one at transstar but it's not too close.
