67-72 lowering & wheel/tire combo

pardon me if this has been asked b4

Have read staying with 6-lug allows option to use 2000 model year and later stock wheels off Yukon, Denali, Silverado, SS, etc. of a wide variety of dia's.

Compared to 73-87 15x8 rallys, don't these 2000/up wheels have major negative offset?

My question is in conjunction with lowering. At what point, when lowering, does the negative offset become necessary? Or does it? Without doing extensive measuring (yet) looks like interference with the inner fender will be an issue w/15x8 rally on my C/10. Guess I'm asking can you go with drop spindles and ignore wheel offset?

Thanks,
John
