Reskin for Tailgate
Sorry if this Post is all out of Wack but I've never done this before. It's really a Test! I'm reskinning the Gate on my 72. As you can see I used a cut off wheel to grind threw the spot welds and then cut across the outside top to free up the old skin.
Then I installed the inside Handle Kit from Mar K and trial fit the gate and adjusted the pull rods for a clean positive release. I didn't like the gauge of the Mar K supplied rods so I rebent the OEM rods to my likings. Instead of welding the new skin in place I used Panel Adhesive that modern shops use today for Panel installations. It is clean to work with after the requisite pre fittings. The Mating surfaces must be free of rust prior to assembly but a little grinding took car of that. I sprayed body undercoat to the inside panel faces and glued it all up. Clamps are a must but I use 2" Masking tape to hold as much of it in alignment as possible. Screws are permisable and after the bond has set you grind off the heads for a flush surface. Now, if someone could tell me how to cartion my photos I'll do better in the future. Al W. Last edited by 67vetteal; 03-05-2010 at 03:29 PM. |
