I need help on a lift for my 72!!!!!1

Hey guys i am totally restoring a 1972 chevy longbox 4x4 truck. I would like to do either a 6 or 8" lift on it but i dont know how that will hinder my steering or if i did do the 8" if i can do something to make it steer normal. Also i was thinking about getting so leafs from newer trucks that are longer like out of a 2004 chevy 1500 4x4 for the rear and maybe some s10 rear leafs that i stack up for support. The main key for me is to do it nice and make it strong but still ride nicely. I heard that many skinny leafs will ride better than like 4-5 thicker leafs. Any help guys? 6 inch will be fine i just want to fit either 25 or 37 and i will not be wheeling it hardly at all. Thanks
