01 Z71 Silverado service engine soon

hi all im a new member to these forums but i have been following them for a while.
my silverado just started showing a steady "service engine soon" light. i looked it up in the manual and said it has something to do with the exhaust system. is there any possibility that it is the o2 sensors? the truck only has 60,XXX on it, we've had it since 2005 and it has never given us any problems before. unfortuanatley, i am currently in central utah and have no access to an obd2 reader to figure out exactly what codes it is throwing until i return home. i know that at the worst, if it is just bad o2 sensors, the engine wont perform as well and get bad gas mileage. is this a problem that can wait until i get home to the bay area?
