Rear Disc Brake Kits
I'm building a 5 lug 12 bolt for a 87 SWB/2wd, and I'm thinking about putting a set of discs on it. I ran a SSBC rear disc kit on a 6 lug 12 bolt on a 83 K10 and didn't have very good luck with it. With the truck on jackstands, idling in gear (4spd) you can stand on the brake pedal with everything you've got and the rear brakes won't stall the engine. I would think that a light tap on the pedal should instantly lock it down and kill the engine. (In 4wd the fronts will do exactly that)
I have installed a 4 wheel disc proportioning valve from Inline Tube, and I have bypassed the PV with a run of straight 1/4" brake line from the MC to the rear. I have tried at least 3 different MCs including a Corvette MC. I also have a brand new booster. And yes, I have thoroughly bled the system. I pretty much given up on it. Does anyone know what combination of master, prop valve, etc I need? I have also wondered if I need to run 3/16" Line to the rear (the front is 3/16 and the rear is 1/4 from the factory). Would smaller line increase pressure? I was close to buying a 3000psi gauge at the time to troubleshoot the issue, but never did. If anyone is running a SSBC kit with the single piston calipers with integrated parking brake, please let me know how it turned out. Is there any kind of mechanical adjustment on the calipers themselves? Finally, I'd like some input on other kits to look into. I'd be interested in something reasonably priced, that works well and has a drum style parking brake. Thanks, Travis |
