Newbie in need of some help engine help

Hi everyone, I am new to the board and recently purchased a 67 C10. Previous owner said he thought it jumped time. It is a 283 with a 1406 Edelbrock Carb, it is HEI not points. I have adjusted the timing and it starts, but anytime I attempt to give it gas due to idling rough, it shoots out of the carb. Cap and Distributor, rotor, spark plugs, and wires were all replaced this week. I did notice the ignition wire was screwed up, because I ran a lead line from the switch on the distributor to the battery and she turned right over. Any other suggestions on getting this old beauty running smooth?
