Stupid question of the day...

I am using a paint stripper disc to remove the paint from my cab floor so that I can por15 the floor. The disc throws sparks every now and then. Should I remove gas tank? I considered throwing a wet blanket over it, but I really don't want to blow myself up during this project. If there isn't leaks, I would assume I should be fine, but want to get y'alls expert opinion.
