ford 9 in info needed

Trying to find a ford 9 in. for my truck,454 475 hp.so I can change gears when needed.I found one that is possibly from a 73 and later car[t-bird or lincoln not sure] but from what I,m can find find is these have a tapered axle or tube,not good for shortening.I don,t want to shortenin it,is a good width for me.So my ? is, is this a rearend I should take or is this style rear a weak unit that can,t be helped without lottsa $
